Flat rack containers are designed for transporting or storing cargo with unique dimensions, featuring sides only on the short ends, allowing cargo to extend beyond the container's width during transit. Typically available in 20-foot and 40-foot sizes, their width and height are similar, with length being the primary difference. Flat racks are ideal for shipping abnormal loads such as trucks, boats, and machinery parts that must remain intact.

Fixed and Collapsible Flat Rack Containers

In addition to flat racks being available in two dimensions, there are also two different types.

- Fixed end flat racks have fixed ends on the short sides. As fixed end flat racks are often stronger in construction, they can endure a greater top loads.
- Collapsible flat racks have sides that can be collapsed so the empty container can be shipped more efficiently. 4 collapsible flat racks would take the same amount of space as 1 regular dry van container!
